In a special message to the 39th Annual Weekend Conference of the North West Area, Party Leader David Cameron spoke of the `invaluable contribution' which Clubs make to Conservative Associations up and down the country.

He said: "Thank you for all you do and for your support." He told the delegates: "With your support we are able not only to hold this failing Government to account, but to offer people a real alternative: a modern, compassionate Conservative Party that is a growing voice for change, optimism and hope in our country."

While Labour was divided and paralysed the Conservatives were united and energetic. Labour believed that everything was the state's responsibility - Conservatives believed in social responsibility.

Mr Cameron said: "A Conservative Government would be more green, more local, more family-friendly and less arrogant not believing that politicians have all the answers to the problems we face."

Representatives of Clubs from all over the Area converged on the Windermere Hydro Hotel on the Friday afternoon where the early session brought together many of the approved suppliers of goods and services to Conservative Clubs.

Following an enjoyable evening buffet there was an exciting race night sponsored by John Smiths Brewery.

The main conference began on Saturday afternoon with a welcome from Area Chairman, John Hudson. This was followed by the Guest Speaker, Sir Nicholas Winterton, M.P. for Macclesfield with Area Vice Chairman, David Buckley, presiding.

There was a Chairman's reception betore the Conference Banquet at which the Special Guest was Lady Winterton, M.P. for Congleton and President of the N.W. Area Clubs.

The first Sunday session was "Question Time" under the Chairmanship of Area Officer, Charles White.

This was followed by the informative `Clubs update' session when A.C.C. Secretary, Philip Smith, outlined some of the many changes in the law which affect the day-to-day running of Clubs.

This session was chaired by Area Officer, Anthony Hannay.

The 39th Conference was rated a great success with delegates looking forward to the 40th in 2009.
