We are on target with this month’s Pages From the Past with an article concerning an ACC rifle shooting competition promoted by the ACC’s then Chairman, Sir Herbert Mackworth Praed. Rifle competitions were extremely popular in Clubs from the 1890’s right up until the 1st World War and several Magazine articles contain advice on how to set up targets. For some time the ACC supplied Clubs with .22 calibre bullets and converted Henri Martini rifles in order to participate in small bore shooting.
Readers will appreciate that at that time there was no health and safety executive and a gun licence could be brought from the post office for 2 ½ d!
